We also have an extensive Gas Servicing Programme to make sure that your home is safe. The law says all gas appliances in our houses must be inspected by a qualified Gas Safe engineer every year – that’s more than 4,500 boilers, fires and water heaters annually. If you have a gas appliance in your house, we will write to you to arrange an appointment.

By working with our customers we re-established our Gas Service to improve its quality and efficiency with a long-term partnership and our own specialist staff. This service is provided through a contract with Lakers Building Management Solutions Limited.

Silent but deadly

When gas does not burn properly excess carbon monoxide is produced. You can’t see it, you can’t taste it, and you can’t smell it. But carbon monoxide can kill within hours. Early symptoms include tiredness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, pains in chest and stomach pains, and may easily be confused with flu or simple tiredness.

Danger!

You are at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning if:

• your appliance was poorly installed;
• your appliance has not been checked for safety or maintained in the last twelve months;
• your chimney or flue gets blocked up; or
• there is not enough fresh air in the room.

What you can do

To avoid any danger:

• never cover any appliance or block air holes;
• never block or obstruct any ventilation air bricks or grills,
• never block or cover outside flues; and
• have you appliances checked or serviced at least every twelve months by a Gas Safe registered installer.
