Claiming Housing Benefit

If you are on a low income, you may be entitled to some help towards paying your rent, service charge and council tax. You may be entitled to Housing Benefit if:

• You have savings of less than £16,000 unless you are aged 60 or over and getting "guaranteed credits" of Pension Credits;
• you do not live in the home of a close relative;
• you are not a full-time student (unless you are disabled or have children); and
• you are not an asylum seeker and are not sponsored to be in the UK.
