A Pearl in Friendship's crown
Friendship’s tenant board member, Pearl McCauley secured a place alongside
50 other finalists in the selection process to find 24 tenants to
sit on the newly formed National Tenant Council.
Over 1300 social housing tenants applied to
join the Council, which has been set up to debate and discuss key
housing policy issues and will form an important part of the
National Tenant Voice (NTV). Following the closing date in
October, 450 applicants were selected to take part in a series of
workshops held across the country.
Pearl’s interactive skills and presentation of
views impressed the selection panel and secured her a place to
attend the face to face interviews. Unfortunately,
Pearl just missed out on a place to join the Council, but her
triumph in reaching the final stages is testament to her 35 year
quest for better social housing and dogged determination to improve
quality of life in the community.
Pearl said “I’ve enjoyed the whole experience.
It’s been really interesting and has given me the chance to
meet the other candidates, share our views and experiences and to
gain valuable knowledge.
“Friendship really listens and cares about
their customers so it gives me a real buzz to give something back.
It’s such a privilege to represent Friendship and champion the
excellent work they do.”
Jonathan
Driffill, Friendship’s Managing Director said “I’m thrilled,
but not at all surprised by Pearl’s achievement. Pearl’s a
great character she’s a people person who motivates other’s to get
involved and has the resolve and passion to get things changed for
the better. Our Board of Management do an amazing job and
Pearl’s accomplishment is just one example demonstrating the
commitment our board have at Friendship.”
