Support Services
Our support services meet
different types and degree of needs. These can be moderate
dependency supported housing schemes to occasional visits – perhaps
just once a month – to make sure individuals living independently
or ok.
At Friendship, we promise
that all our residents and service users have individual
needs. So we can support people effectively, our services
have been developed to support six client groups which may
overlap. These include learning disabilities; mental health;
women escaping domestic violence; young people; older people; and
general support for our tenants.
To meet these needs, we
offer two types of support which are designed around the individual
needs of the service user. Community-based services work with
individuals who live in their own home, and accommodation-based
services provide a home as well as support.
Regardless of where the
support is delivered, or to which client group, our support
services all provide housing related support. The funding for
these services is via a government grant called ‘Supporting
People’
The purpose of this grant
is to enable vulnerable people to establish and maintain tenancies
and take a full part in their communities. This means there
are tasks which are eligible under Supporting People and some which
are not. The support we can deliver must contribute to the
sustaining of a person’s tenancy.
Some of our services are
culturally-dedicated. This means they have been carefully
designed to be sensitive to the culture and background of a
particular ethnic group. For example, we run a mental health
support service in Sandwell specifically for Asian people
experiencing mental ill-health. The approach, languages,
leisure and social activities all reflect this background.
